EMDR Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

EMDRIA Approved EMDR Basic Training means this training meets the curriculum requirements established by EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) and has been reviewed and approved by the EMDRIA Standards and Training Committee. Julie Greene has been an EMDRIA approved Basic Trainer since 2005.

Ten Hours of EMDR Consultation is required as part of EMDR Basic Training and is not included in the cost of the Level I and II sessions offered by Awake Mind, LLC. Arrangements for this consultation will be discussed at the Level I session with recommendations for forming groups and working with local consultants. There is also the option to do the consultation by phone. The typical cost for consultation is around $200-$300 for the whole 10 hours, depending on the number of people in a group.

The consultation may also be done with any EMDRIA approved Consultant. To find people in your area go to the EMDRIA website and search for an approved consultant near your location.

Reading for EMDR Basic Training
Required Reading for EMDR Basic Training is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures by Francine Shapiro (2001) The Guildford Press. Make sure to get the 2001 second edition. Read this book between Level I and II.

Recommended reading prior to Basic Training is EMDR: The Breakthrough Therapy for Overcoming Anxiety, Stress and Trauma by Shapiro and Forrest (1997) Basic Books.

EMDR Certification is different than completion of EMDR Basic Training. Many psychotherapists use EMDR in their clinical work without becoming certified. In order to say that you are "EMDR Certified",  you complete additional training and practice requirements and submit an application to EMDRIA. For more information, please visit the EMDRIA website.
